| Abstract: |
Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HIV-1 and Hiv-2) infections are generally linked to the progressive depletion of CD4 T- cells (CD4). This depletion has been associated with a variety of opportunistic infections including those of bacterial origin. HIV has been associated with an increase incidence of nasal colonization by staphylococcus aureus (SA) and invasive infections which respond poorly to conventional antimicrobial therapy due to drug resistance. The ability of some strians of SA to form biofilm which enhances the spread of antibiotic resistant traits through gene exchange and mutation has been documented.
